*Giveaway and Review - two books - Grace Unplugged and Own It

I recently received two books to review from Fly By! Promotions. I also am able to offer a giveaway so that one of my readers can receive a copy of both of them.

The first book is Own It by Michael and Hayley DiMarco. This book is mentioned throughout the novel that I also received, and is a book about making your faith your own. I didn't care for this book, in that it was too legalistic for me... you have to do such and such in order to really be a Christians, basically. From looking through reviews of other books by the authors, that seems to be their thing.

I give Own It 2 out of 5 stars.

The second book was Grace Unplugged by Melody Carlson is a novel based on a movie that is coming out October 4th. It's the story of a girl who feels held back by her dad and sets out to make it on her own through music. This book was a decent read, but it had bits that I didn't like and/or disagreed with.

I give Grace Unplugged 3 out of 5 stars, and I am thinking that the movie might be better.

I know that I wasn't too positive in my reviews, but you can see if you like the books, yourself. Fly By! Promotions is responsible for the prizes.

Here is the trailer for the movie if you want to check it out:

I received this book free to review from Fly By Promotions. The opinions expressed in this review are my true thoughts and feeling regarding this book. I am disclosing this information in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

  14. From what I have read about legalism, it is where people try to abide by the WORLD'S laws, not the ten commandments. I'm a Pastor's daughter, and I have heard a lot about this from my dad. I think that the only way to get into heaven, is to abide by the ten commandments, and the other rules in the BIble (aka homosexuality, beastiality, etc). Not saying that abiding by the laws of the world is a bad thing. Because drunk driving, smoking weed, and doing drugs is a illegal thing and I am GLAD of that. I'm sorry if I'm not making myself clear LOL

  18. As far as the legalistic aspect, I don't think you need to do A, B, and C to get into heaven. If that was the case, what good would childlike faith do us?

  19. I have a hard time with the legalistic aspect because I believe that all of God's children will make it into heaven if we believe and follow the 10 commandments.

  23. I had not heard about legalism in regards to Christianity before. Traditions are fine but legalism will chase more people away from the Church.

  28. I think it is important to be somewhere between legalism and religion. It is important to uphold your faith, but equally important to follow the laws. Once again, another grey area.
